Mrs. Hartzog's has been named the Douglas County Middle School Teacher of the Year (TOTY) after being named the TOTY for TMS. This is not her first honor as a school's TOTY. During the 2010-2011 school year, she represented Stewart Middle School as their TOTY and was a finalist for the Middle School Teacher of the Year. She earned an undergraduate degree in criminal justice from the University of Southern Mississippi, a master's in political science from Jackson State University. She began teaching in Douglas County in 2005.
Turner has a history of its TOTY going on to serve as Douglas County School System Middle School Teacher of the Year. More recently, Roxanne Purcell (17-18) and Rueben Pitts (14-15) are the most recent representatives.
