News Update 9.18.20

Posted on 09/18/2020

Parents,

We wanted to update you on some information from Turner as well as recently presented information from the district. You can stay abreast by regularly visiting our website at https://tms.dcssga.org/home

As you, know face-to-face (F2F) instruction began on September 14. Out of 756 students, we had an average of 258 students attend F2F instruction. Make sure you know our class schedule. We had a great first week of F2F instruction considering all the variables that teachers had to juggle. They were asked to provide school-based digital learning (SBDL) online as well as those who occupied seats in our classroom, and the teachers glowing delivered. Our teachers are the heroes, magicians, architects and everything else.

We have two and half weeks before this grading period ends on October 7. We have seen a number of students who have not taken full advantage of the work provided for them. Many students have checked into online classes then walked away. Whether F2F or SBDL, we have too many students who are not completing their work. Parents, please reach out to our teachers to ensure that your student is completing his/her work. Remember, you can view your student's grades via Parent Portal of Infinite Campus. If you have not signed up for Parent Portal, please see the information here (PP).

On October 8, 2020, the second 9-week grading period begins. For those parents who desire for their students to return to school for F2F learning, please email Mr. Franklin ([email protected]) and Tiffani Bagby ([email protected]) on or before September 28. Notifications beyond that will not be honored as a tremendous amount of planning is involved in ensuring that students can safely practice social distancing. The next window for students who do not start F2F instruction on October 8 will be January 6, 2021. Parents who are interested in their students returning to F2F instruction on January 6 must email Mr. Franklin and Tiffani Bagby ([email protected]) on or before December 4, 2020.

Turner is looking for parents to serve on its Local School Advisory Council (LSAC). This body acts in concert with other parental groups. The primary purpose of LSAC is school improvement. Parents serving or attending LSAC meetings are provided in depth look into school performance data as well as school improvement efforts designed to result in our students performing better as a collective group. LSAC will meet virtually at a minimum of four times this year beginning in October. If you would like to hear more information, email or call Mr. Franklin (770-651-5512).

For upcoming and future athletic events, the district has enacted a new Clear Bag policy. If you plan on attending any athletic events, make sure that you familiarize yourself with the policy to avoid any frustration at the gate or entrance of the venue.
