Life Brings Changes

Dear Students and Parents:

Who could have imagined all that has transpired since we left school on Friday, March 13? Even with such a superstitious date, no one could have envisioned the turns in life that we have experienced since then. I know students and staff left with the expectation that return to school after those two weeks. None of us could have known or anticipated the havoc the Novel Corona Virus would create in our world. Despite that, Douglas County School System and Turner has made every effort to serve our students with excellence considering the circumstances.

While we respect and appreciate decisions that Governor Kemp made to ensure our safety, the intrusions and interruptions to our lives has birthed a great deal of disappointment. Whether from college, high school or middle school, students had worked tremendously hard to culminate their time in school with a ceremony that honors their dedicated efforts. We are utterly disappointed that our students will not be able to finish the year as we traditionally have. Our 8th graders will not be able to partake in their annual field trip out of state as well as the promotional ceremony. Our band and chorus students will miss their Spring Concert where they showcase how much they have grown over the year. Our soccer and track athletes also have to forgo the rest of their seasons. Our students do not get the opportunity to close the year out with one another. It is that one-on-one interaction with each other that we all miss.

I want you to ensure you that Turner, in conjunction with District leadership, is committed to serving our students through digital learning with excellence. There is a lot of uniqueness to solely digital learning; however, the innovation and opportunity it provides will benefit us for years to come. Our students are resilient. Many have already begun to meet the challenge of extending their learning through the digital space. Even with that, a plethora of questions abound revolving around where we go from here. Mr. North, our school Superintendent, and system leadership are diligently working with us to finalize our plan of action for the students, and to address the myriad of inquiries that students, parents and staff have over our present situation.

Please stay informed about district decisions by following this link: Additionally, I will make every effort to keep you informed of the next steps for us to meet the needs of our students. Within the next couple of days, check Turner's website for updates on Phase II of our Digital Learning Days. We expect to have a greater amount of interaction from our teachers. I am in and out of the office, but I am responding to emails. You may email me at or leave me a message at 770.651-5512.

Let’s follow the direction of our healthcare professionals, so we can be safe. These trials have come to strengthen our faith which is of greater worth than gold. Stay safe. Stay strong.
