Welcome back for the 2018-2019 School Year

On behalf of Turner's faculty and staff, I welcome you back for the start of a new school year. I trust that our families had great summers and time to recharge.

Once again, Turner experienced the positive impact of great home and school relationships. I have long used academics, arts, athletics and service to the community as ways to show how schools I have led performed. Below are a few examples.

We look forward to growing our efforts to build positive relationships with students and their families. It is well documented that people perform better when they know that someone cares for them. That is true at home, at work and at school. Students and parents, we truly want to forge relationships that will result in students having the best experience, so students can achieve at their highest levels of ability. We may not all grow at the same speed, but we must all grow.

One of the largest measurements for growth is the Milestones. Unlike the past four years, Turner lost ground on growing and improvement on the Milestones. While there are some spotlights on Milestone performance, we have to make significant improvements in preparing our students to perform well. That must be a concerted effort among students, parents and the school.

TMS employees' sole purpose in being here is to support the growth and development of our students where academic performance is the main indicator of success.

In order for any of us to be successful, we must be smart. We will encourage our students this year to participate in setting personal S.M.A.R.T. goals. S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant/Results-oriented and Timebound. We will encourage our students give Maximum Effort as they seek to be Resectful, Accountable, Responsible and to give Earnest Effort Everyday. Be R.A.R.E.3 students.

Parents and students, we need your full support in providing you the best learning experiences. Parents, we welcome your input and support. There are a myriad of opportunities for you to be engaged in the life of your child and in Turner. Students, we need your Maximum Effort in order for you to excel this year.

The world is searching for those rare people to make a difference. Let us all work together for this aim: Be R.A.R.E.3

I look forward to meeting you in the coming months and partnering with you to support your student's success. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email: darron.franklin@douglas.k12.ga.us or phone at 770-651-6512 if you have questions or concerns.
