Safety First: Outlines Inclement Weather Plan
As we enter the season of unpredictable weather, LSHS is committed to keeping students and families informed. Our top priority is safety, with clear procedures in place for school closures and early dismissals.
How Decisions Are Made
The Superintendent and DCSS Board of Education determine schedule changes based on input from local law enforcement, the Department of Transportation, and the National Weather Service, considering road conditions, temperature, and building status.
Notification Channels
The DCSS aims to make a final decision no later than 5:30 A.M. to allow families time to make arrangements. In the event of a change, we will notify you through:
Automated Alerts: Phone calls, texts, and/or emails sent via our school messenger.
Official Website: A banner alert will be posted on the district homepage.

Understanding Our Options
Depending on the severity of the weather, the district could choose one of the following:
School Closure: All classes and after-school activities are canceled. This may be designated as an asynchronous day, where students participate in remote learning from home.
Early Dismissal: If weather worsens during the day, students may be sent home early. We urge parents to have a pre-arranged childcare plan in place for these unexpected situations.
A Note to Parents
While the district makes a decision for the entire community, we respect that conditions can vary by neighborhood. Parents are the final authority on whether they feel it is safe for their child to travel. If you choose to keep your child home due to weather when school is open, please follow the standard absence reporting procedures.
